I think of yoga as a homecoming- it is the way I’ve come home to my body. Yoga is a refuge and a medicine, it is a mirror and a vehicle. My daily practice of asana and pranayama has brought me into closer proximity to the Divine, improving my health and the health of my relationships. Yoga Vermont is a special place, full of a genuine generosity, warmth and love. When I receive an assist from Kathy or Scott I feel like a plant having my roots watered. I could not imagine a more constructive community to practice in.
Mothering is the most defining experience of my life. It has provided me with endless opportunities to grow, to serve and to receive love. It is physically, emotionally and spiritually demanding work. Yoga practice is a wonderful preparation for childbirth and the rigors of mothering a new baby. In childbirth, not only is a baby born, but a mother, and a family. It is my intention to offer a safe environment in which we can grow stronger, in order to thrive in the multiplicity of our lives. I teach a class which is both deeply restorative and physically challenging. I draw on the heat and consistency of my personal Ashtanga practice and structure a class around the changing needs of pregnancy.
I studied Pilates intensely with modern dancer and second-generation instructor, Kate Johnson. It was in working with Kate that I started to experience a balance, strength and integrity in my body. I found that I was more present in my relationships, more flexible and open to change.
With my partner Rishi, I founded a sewing cooperative in India, where we spend as much time as possible. I have lived in Brooklyn for over a decade, working as a poet in the schools and running our shop, Umkarna. Always looking for a way to breathe the good air and eat the good food in Vermont. We are very happy to be home.
