Instructor Program:
200 Hour

Yoga Vermont values the individual; their unique gifts, experience and interests. We believe a successful Yoga Instructor Program encourages the student to look within, assess these qualities and build upon them to cultivate an authentic teaching style. Yoga Vermont’s Instructor Course naturally works to fuel the special life fire within each individual. We do not look to create a group of indistinguishable, interchangeable instructors. Yoga Vermont opens our doors for students ready to link their personal interests and explore their chosen field of emphasis in relation to essential principles of Yogic philosophy. In so doing, we offer an opportunity for students to cultivate a genuine voice and progress with the same vitality they will bring to their future classes.

This program includes all 2007-2008 Individual Components (see below); the Series of Eight Saturday Sessions, Three Weekend Workshops, the Summer Seven Day Intensive and a 60 Hour Independent Component. Classroom instruction will include practice, philosophy, service and anatomy. Practice will be in the categories of pranayama, asana, kriyas, mantra, meditation and reflection. Philosophy, history, ideas of personal consciousness and influential spiritual traditions will be discussed. Service will be explored through teaching, assisting and volunteering in the community. Anatomy will consider physical and energetic systems.

Yoga Vermont’s unique Independent Component allows students the opportunity to explore a specific topic of their choice in depth, develop a year long study plan including service and applied classroom time, and finally share their work through an oral presentation to their classmates.

There will be time to practice instructing all aspects of Yoga. Home work, journaling and contact with Kathy McNames will fill in the time away from Yoga Vermont. For those who live in town there will be the opportunity to assist regularly in the studio. This complete package offers unique and intensive personalized instruction and a 200 hour Yoga Vermont Instructors Certificate. This course is for anyone ready to develop their own distinctive teaching voice.

Weekend Schedule
Friday 6pm-8:30pm

Weekends focus on the fine points of instruction and lecture in a classroom setting. Specific classroom techniques will be practiced to become students’ own. Assignments explore basic communication and instruction methods. Participants will lead short classes or lectures. Students explore Anatomy and Physiology in relation to their own bodies and past experiences and create illustrations to begin a journal of overlying systems, from dense matter to light fire of prana.

SATURDAY COMPONENT
(10am-2:30pm) (4.5 hours each)
April 12 (Yamas/Niyamas), May 31 (Asana), June 14 (Presentations), June 28 (Pranayama), Sept 13 (Asana), Sept 27 (Pratyahara), November 1 (Dharana), November 15 (Dhyana), December 6 (Samadhi), December 20 (Asana), January 10 (Pranayama), January 24 (Presentations), February 7 (Asana)
The eight Saturday Sessions delve into the individual limbs of the eight limbed path of Ashtanga Yoga; Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. These sessions promote direct, realized experience of the philosophical application of the practice. Practice and journaling will connect the topics.

SEVEN DAY SUMMER INTENSIVE COMPONENT (50 hours)
July 19-25, 2008
10am-2:30pm
5:30-7:30pm
Morning sessions are spent in the studio and include daily asana practice, philosophy, pranayama, mantra and teaching methodology and practicum. Students are given daily assignments, then break to enjoy the beautiful Vermont summer afternoon. Students reconvene at the studio in the evening where they assist, observe or participate in daily classes. This concentrated time together is where our instructing blooms fully and our exploration of philosophical topics become gifts to our students.

YVT INDEPENDENT COMPONENT (60 Hour)
Students commit to a year long project, centered upon their specific interests and develop a research plan which includes field work and service. Students will maintain a dialog with Kathy McNames, who will serve as their advisor, throughout the year. Students will be given assignments and meet in a conference setting (one on one or small group sessions) to take the next steps down their individual teaching path. At the conclusion, students will give an oral presentation to other members of their class.

Students may begin the 200 Hour training at the following start dates in 2008 March 14, July 19, or October 17. Fee for the entire 200 hour program is $1600. Components may also be taken separately. Please see individual listings for pricing. (Please read our cancellation policy).
